In 2009, Chef Jake Brown had a vision to showcase his culinary experiences growing up in Northern Nevada, numerous expeditions to Mexico,
and years of working in some of Portland's finest restaurants. The result was the first food cart in the Joinery parking lot.
After 5 years of serving the Woodstock neighborhood, he realized he'd outgrown the cart and began the journey to open indoors. Not wanting to leave the Woodstock neighborhood, and the patrons he had served for years, he looked local, with luck he was fortunate to find a tiny nook just 4 blocks down Woodstock.
After years of planning and construction, it all came together in 2015 when the taqueria went brick and mortar. El Gallo taqueria focuses on homemade, hand- pressed, corn tortillas, locally made flour tortillas, locally sourced all natural meats, seafood, vegetables and dairy. We are a very small space that strives for fresh, healthy, foods made from scratch that we love to share with you the community in which we also call home.
Thank You All
